Stairs To Down There

Where does it go? Down there.

Worn wooden steps drop toward the Mississippi on the west bank, just south of where the Rum River joins it: weathered boards, hand-built railings, and two lines of rail pulling your eye straight down to the water. Unglamorous and clearly well used. The far bank sits quiet under an overcast sky.

I could have called it "Wooden Stairs by the River." That seemed like a waste of a perfectly good staircase.

Shot in black and white, with no polish to hide the wear. Just grain, gray, and worn wood.

A natural fit by the front door, in a hallway, or anywhere a wall could use a little depth.
