Most bananas don't get their portrait taken at this stage.

This one was sitting in my kitchen, well past its prime, and I gave it the same attention I'd give any still life: low light and a dark room, so the spots and the curve could do all the talking. There's a Japanese idea, wabi-sabi, that imperfect and aging things have their own kind of beauty. This banana makes a good case for it.

It didn't last much longer. The photo did.
