A parking lot in early March, in the middle of a thaw. There was an obscene amount of snow melting at once, more than an overturned ice cream truck, and puddles everywhere. So I got down low, close to the water, until one bare tree, a low winter sun flaring through its branches, and its reflection all lined up in the same frame.

Black and white strips out everything that would've made it merely pretty: one trunk, one flare, one mirrored echo below it. Nobody would guess it started as a parking lot puddle.
