A steel staircase bolted to the side of a brick building, an entrance no sensible person would use. Probably one for employees. I stood at the bottom with the camera pointed up, half-expecting a security guard to pop out of nowhere and wave me off. Being a photographer is dangerous business sometimes.

Grated steps, a mesh railing and a handrail all run the same direction, pulling your eye straight up to the sky. Black and white keeps it to steel, brick and shadow.

Its opposite number, Stairs To Down There, heads toward the Mississippi. Hang them together and let people decide which way they're going.
