The sun set up a chessboard, so I took the picture.
A July day, a wooden deck, and the shadow of the railing falling across the boards. The boards run one way, the shadows run the other, and for a little while they lined up into a grid of light and dark squares, a chessboard nobody had put the pieces on yet.
Shot in black and white to keep it to the pattern: wood grain, straight lines, and light that won't sit still for long.
